Morton N. Cohen was a noted literary scholar, biographer, and professor best known for his extensive research on Lewis Carroll. Born in Calgary, Canada, he later built his academic career in the United States and taught at institutions including the City University of New York. Cohen became one of the leading authorities on Victorian literature and children’s literature. His most famous work, *Lewis Carroll: A Biography* (1995), is widely regarded as a definitive study of Carroll’s life and legacy. He also edited *The Letters of Lewis Carroll* and wrote on authors such as Rudyard Kipling and H. Rider Haggard. In recognition of his scholarly contributions, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, and the Modern Language Association established the Morton N. Cohen Award for distinguished editions of letters in his honour.
